[Les had the only sunburned (red) face on the ship having fallen asleep on an empty gale lashed (but sunny) deck - only mad dogs & Englishmen go out in the mid day sun!!!]

Jill with Chester & Charlotte (from Birmingham Alabama) in a (wet) nature reserve on Tasmania - this was the day Les nearly missed the boat!

Left - Les, Jill, Kerry & Colleen outside Dunedin University NZ

Above - A couple of wild colonials (Faye & Max) sat by a billabong waiting for their tucker!

Right - a couple of native teddy bears trying to get some sleep!

Colleen, Kerry, Jill, Les & Faye highly amused whilst waiting for a bus in Adelaide

- Max (the photographer) was about to be run over by one!

THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Jill meets a couple of Australian tennis stars in the main street in Melbourne and is promptly invited to give an exhibition of British tennis skill to the massing throngs.

Naturally she takes up the challenge despite the opposition being two qualifiers from the Australian Open. We don't know their names but they were BIG!!

(I think they overheard me saying that I was "hen pecked by a tennis wife" and thought she must be related to Henman?)

Pre-Dinner drinks .... Les, Faye, Max, Jenni, Frank, Karel

Jill & Violet

(With wig in front - No it's not Kerry's he was in bed looking after Colleen - who was feeling ill)

We managed a bit of posing using the ship's photographer's props & lighting whilst he wasn't looking - not bad for an Instamatic - saving $10 US

Above - Violet & Karel

Left - On our last night on board our cruise ship Kerry and Colleen entertained us to a Champagne reception before dinner - Max wanted us to feel as though we had really hit Australia and produced his "Vegimite" butties!

Below - Faye, Jill, Les and half of Sydney, outside our home of the previous 2 weeks - Star Princess

At the end of the cruise Jill & I moved into The Four Seasons hotel in Sydney for 3 nights whilst the others headed for their homes

in Sydney, Canberra, Perth & the Gold Coast -

The above was the view from our hotel room on the evening before the ship sailed away

Max & Faye did not believe in travelling light...

Left - Their luggage - Above -They leave - Faye becomes a Sherpa

4 days later Jill and I left for Hong Kong, but not before Kerry and Colleen entertain us to an Aussie Barbi!

and on our last day in Aus we had a farewell dinner with Kerry, Colleen, Karel & Violet.

QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER .... Wishes his colonial mates - G'day

Our next stop was Hong Kong....

& Chinese New Year

Jill sat in the window of our Hong Kong hotel room overlooking the harbour and Kowloon

The Lion Dance in our hotel  - Left - two men jumping from stand to stand - Above - Jill gets to meet the Lion

Hong Kong at night - Taken by me from the Star Ferry at Kowloon looking back to our hotel on Hong Kong Island

A late afternoon view from the Peak looking South

This was taken after Jill & I had just enjoyed a superb lunch at the Peak Restaurant

During our stay in Hong Kong we spent two evenings with Paul and Caroline Buckland. (A Cranwell mate from 1963-66)

On our last evening Paul had organised a superb "Firework" dinner for 6 (and a half) of his family and us in the Grand Hyatt. The hotel overlooked the spectacular Chinese New Year Firework display.

The above is a photograph was taken just before Jill and I had to make a dash to the airport to catch our plane home. Paul is top left and Caroline bottom right.

Left to right - Top ... Paul, Les, Jill, Frank  - Bottom - Stephanie, Brett & baby Xana , Joan, Caroline

Our thanks to Paul and his family - this was a fitting end to a superb holiday - we really finished with a bang....

And were last on the plane!!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE WE MET ON THE TRIP -

IT WAS YOU WHO MADE IT SO PLEASURABLE

PS - Whilst I was looking through some old naval newspapers I came across this photograph of a sailor who was AWOL and is wanted for Opal trading on the Adelaide coast - does anyone recognise him ....
